Dualto Energy Generator
A human-centric approach to surgical energy
Problem Space: In the operating room, organization and consistency are essential for successful surgeries.
Dualto provides an easier way to change settings and change out tools for complex procedures. As the interaction designer, I was tasked with crafting an experience that prioritizes simplicity and reliability.
Impact
Dualto reduces the footprint of surgical generators by 46%, reducing set up time, and improving staff efficiency.
I was responsible for the interaction design and prototyping for the Dualto user interface, synthesizing user feedback over multiple usability studies to create a design that can scale to an ecosystem of medical devices.
Features
Visual UI refined by research
Dark mode distracts less in a darkened OR. Device activation highlights which instrument panel is firing, enforcing a clear hierarchy of active, standby, and unused modes.
Minimize training with intuitive controls
Easily configure controls, change device settings, and track usage through a medical-grade touch screen and industry standard interaction patterns.
Focused UI reduces distractions
The UI balances glanceability with focus, giving users the space to focus on important tasks such as adjusting one instrument setting or troubleshooting an alarm.
